Where We Work

Our home base in East Africa is in Awassa, Ethiopia. But we also offer programs in 9 other sites across Ethiopia. We welcome everyone who walks through our door. Because: we believe these cities will be more resilient if students practice together who are from numerous villages, rich and poor families, different religions, tribal affiliations, sexual orientations, and backgrounds.

The opportunity

You can think of the Institute for Social Advancement as a collaboration in social equity and education, a youth-centered ideation lab, a makerspace. A place that gives students a chance to explore their talents, interests, cultures, and sources of inspiration. Every program is offered free of charge and many, many of our teachers volunteer their time. Our goal is to offer paid teaching positions and expand our schedule of classes to the communities we serve.

We’re committed to offering our programs free of charge & paying our teachers. Help us make both happen.
